Top 20 most expensive streets in Street and Glastonbury – Part 5 (3-1)

The last in a series of articles looking at the most expensive streets in Street and Glastonbury in which I look at the top 3.

3 – Ham Street (Baltonsborough)

Average price paid £397,347 – Ham Street was once home to poorhouses and today is one of the most expensive streets to live in and is home to the village hall and the primary school. Ham Street is also home to Date Palm Developments who are the market leader in the production of date palm plants by tissue culture and have successfully supplied plants to over 25 countries. The property sale that has the highest recorded price in Ham Street to date is The Manse, which sold on 06/08/2010 for £905,000. The most recently recorded transaction in Ham Street was Glebe House, which sold on 29/07/2016 for £743,000.

2 – Newtown (West Pennard)

Average price paid £420,706 – Newtown, or Nova Placea as it was once known, has had the largest concentration of houses in West Pennard for centuries and today has 71 properties. The most expensive recorded transaction in Newtown to date is Whitegates, which sold for £1,350,000 on 26/08/2016. Whitegates has 5/6 bedrooms, an amazing 28 ft. kitchen, tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool complex and 1.5-acre gardens. The property sale that has been recorded in Newtown most recently was Arcadia, which sold for £548,500 on 07/09/2016.

1 – Barton Road (Butleigh)

Average price paid £515,576 – So here it is – the most expensive street in the Street and Glastonbury area. There are 31 properties in Barton Road. The most expensive transaction that has been recorded in Barton Road is Whitelawn which sold for £975,000 on 12/08/2014. Whitelawn was described by the estate agent at the time as ‘Stunning detached house set in approximately 1.4 acres’ and has a drawing room with two inglenook fireplaces. The most recent house purchase in Barton Road was Oddway Top, which sold for £676,500 on 13/01/2017. The cheapest property sold in Barton Road in the last 10 years was 63A which sold for £200,000.

The countdown continues in the top 20 most expensive streets in Street and Glastonbury with number 6 to 4..

6 – Martin Street (Baltonsborough)

Average price paid £362,807 – Martin Street was once the boundary of a divided Baltonsborough. Merkell, Markyl, or Martin Street had just 4 houses in the late 18th century but today has 58 properties and is home to a small family run vineyard. St. Anne’s school for the daughters of clergy and professional men was opened by Anglican nuns from Clewer (Berks.) before 1871 on a site in Martin Street and later became a boarding house for boys for Millfield school. The most expensive transaction that has been recorded in Martin Street to date is Churchmoor Barn which sold for £830,000 on 30/07/2015.

5 – Watts Corner (Glastonbury)

Average price paid £364,879 – Watts Corner is a development of 72 dwellings located just a 30-minute walk or 6-minute drive NE of Glastonbury town centre. Built by David Wilson homes, the development is also known as Chalice Fields and all the properties are detached. The gap in the Watts Corner dwellings opposite 185 Wells Road was left as an agreement between the then owner of the land who lived at 185 Wells Road and David Wilson Homes so that the owner had an unobscured view of the fields from her kitchen. The most expensive recorded transaction in Watts Corner to date is 47, which sold on 24/08/2007 for £455,000.

4 – High Street (Butleigh)

Average price paid £387,220 – High Street Butleigh is home to 60 properties, a general stores and Post Office and the primary school. The property sale that has the highest recorded price in High Street to date is Holmans Place, which sold on 31/10/2014 for £1,134,825. Holmans Place is a house with barn converted to an annex both of which are listed as are many of the buildings on High Street.
